Each season (we’re talking fashion seasons, obviously) there seems to be a champion print or pattern takes over designer stores, the high street, and everything in between.
This season, it’s the starry sky/constellation print, and leading the charge is none other than our very own M&S. It’s in the Limited Edition collection and has been in high demand by the fashion crowd.
I saw this on The Frugality instagram back in fashion week and seem to have seen it on every major fashion bloggers site since then (it’s like that yellow midi sun dress that they had in the summer- that I never managed to get!). It sold out in every size, in every store and online. I was on the case though, because when they released the next drop last Sunday I was ON it and now feel like a bonified member of the fash pack. I’ve worn it with my moonstone (I don’t know if that’s actually a thing but the stone reminds me of a moon, so I’m going with it) earrings from Anthropologie (the sale, of course!) and my sparkly silver sock boots from ASOS (they’re on sale so get in quick!).
It’s currently sold out again in almost every size but it looks like there are a few in size 8 that you can get here. I’m wearing an 8 if that is helpful to know! If you do manage to get one, you’re onto a winner – this is probably the best value for money dress that I’ve seen for a while; the fabric has some weight to it and feels really luxurious to wear. The stitching is good quality and the fit is true to size and flattering. If French Connection were to have this, you’d be looking at parting with a good £120 I think, but M&S offered it up for a solid £45. Warning: People are now selling this on eBay for as much as £125 which is just rude!
Don’t panic if you weren’t on top of the M&S website, though. I’ve collated a little edit of my pick constellation dresses for you to shop below and join in on the dreamy feeling of wearing a galaxy.
First up, this midi dress from Rixo is LUSH. I saw it this week on Chloe Loves to Shop and if you’ve got a little more to spend, it’s a goregous choice. Chloe did make the comment that it’s quite low cut, but if I’m honest, that doesn’t really worry me!
Whistles have also got involved if you’re interested in a jumpsuit. I’ll be honest, I think unless it’s on sale or is a leather item that you’ll have forever I’m just not prepared to pay Whistles prices for these pieces, as lovely as they are. The quality is good – but no more so than other high street heroes like French Connection and & Other Stories, and if I’m committing to spending that kind of money, I’d rather it be on a more unique brand like Rixo. But if you’ve got the cash to burn….
If you’re budget doesn’t stretch to Whistles, and the M&S dress is truly sold out (which it has done since I started typing this post!) then this lighter, floaty version from New Look is also fab. I actually like this much more than the jumpsuit, I’m a sucker for an asymmetric hem, and it’s a little more glitzy for the Christmas parties that are about to start rolling around.
What do you think – are you getting involved?
